Recent developments in the domain of Information Retrieval triggered a revolution in social sciences. NLP and the semantic web provide methods to study various social phenomena from a crowd angle, instead of a domain expert angle. Extracting meaningful entities from raw text and aggregate the information gathered provides a basis for all kinds of visualizations. The MONA project is such a project that focuses on activist events. Using NLP it extracts activist events from online news sources, ready to be visualized on a world map, chart or timeline. The visualization primarily focuses on frequency (or popularity) of event occurrences in the news. This research design describes a tool for further investigation of the reliability of these activist events, with respect to the MONA project. Furthermore, a literature study shows common definitions related to reliability and methods and techniques suggested to realize and evaluate the reliability tool. In addition to that, existing event frameworks may be extended and additional literature research on reliability indicators for online news articles is preferred.
